India is set to enhance its surveillance capabilities with the acquisition of Voronezh Radar from Russia

India and Russia are in discussions regarding the acquisition of the Voronezh radar system. This radar has the capability to detect aerial targets at a range of 6,000 to 8,000 kilometers. Such advanced radar technology is possessed by only three countries worldwide. The Voronezh radar has been developed by Almaz-Antey, the company responsible for manufacturing the S-400 defense system.

Moscow: India and Russia are working towards finalizing a deal for the acquisition of an early warning radar system with a range exceeding 6,000 kilometers. This radar, named Voronezh, has been developed by Almaz-Antey, the manufacturer of the S-400 system. The cost of the Voronezh radar is anticipated to exceed $4 billion. According to sources, discussions regarding the Voronezh radar between the two nations are in the final stages.

Officials from Almaz-Antey Visit India

As reported by The Sunday Guardian, last month, a ten-member delegation from Almaz-Antey, one of Russia`s largest air defense system manufacturers, visited India under the leadership of Vice President Vladimir Medovnikov. During this visit, the delegation also traveled to Delhi and Bengaluru to engage in discussions with offset partners involved in the deal. Sources indicate that this initiative aligns with India`s Make in India program.

Learn about the features of the Voronezh radar.

The Voronezh radar is included in the Almaz-Antey catalog and is an early warning radar system designed to detect ballistic missiles, aircraft, and other aerial threats at long ranges. This system is an integral part of Russia`s missile defense and space surveillance infrastructure. The detection range of the Voronezh radar is approximately 6,000 to 8,000 kilometers (about 3,700 to 5,000 miles). However, the range depends on the specific variant of the radar and the frequency band in which it operates.
