Amazon shoppers in US have the opportunity to purchase vehicles from Hyundai directly through online platform.

Beginning today, Amazon users in the United States have the opportunity to purchase a new Hyundai vehicle through the e-commerce platform. The online retail leader has announced the launch of its automotive sales initiative, Amazon Auto, in collaboration with South Korean manufacturer Hyundai Motors, which is now operational in over 48 cities across America, including Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Houston, New York, San Francisco, Seattle, and Washington, D.C.

Consumers in these locations can buy vehicles listed by local dealerships directly on the Amazon platform. The company has indicated plans to extend the Amazon Auto service to additional regions in 2025.

Prospective car buyers can search for their desired vehicles on Amazon Auto by specifying their preferences for make, model, trim, color, and other features. The company assures customers that they will encounter "transparent, upfront pricing" for each vehicle.

Buyers have the option to trade in their existing vehicle for a new one, contingent upon an assessment conducted by an independent third party. Additionally, they can arrange for pick-up appointments at their nearest car dealership. Regarding financing, Amazon Auto indicates that this will be managed by the local dealership, with Amazon acting as an intermediary for the time being.

At present, this car-selling service is limited to new vehicles, and it remains uncertain whether Amazon intends to extend this service to include used cars in the future.

Amazon-Hyundai Collaboration

Initially announced in 2023, the collaboration between Amazon and Hyundai dealerships presents advantages for both entities. Hyundai dealerships gain access to a broader customer base through Amazon, alleviating the necessity to develop their own sales platform. Conversely, this partnership enables Amazon to engage in significant sales while entering a new, profitable market segment, all without the complications associated with inventory storage and the logistics of vehicle shipping.
